Kaminari was fat and she didn't like it. She was always hungry and she didn't like it. She was always having cravings for the weirdest shit and she did not like it. And she was always moody and no one liked it. This little creature in her belly was messing things up! Kaminari didn't want to be a Mom; she had no plans on doing so, but one night just turned all of that around. Kaminari thought about her situation every single night since she found out about the baby. Her entire world was being turned inside out and she felt like she was soon going to lose everything she worked for. She felt like the world was against her; Even her own body was against her! How was this something she was supposed to be able to handle? The last three days, ever since she returned from a surprise trip to see Snopy Saika, Kaminari had been avoiding everyone. She stayed home and locked the door. She spent her days moping about and eating ice cream with impossible amounts of chocolate. Anyone who came to see her, Midori, Kazuo, Genpaku, Toja, Daigoro, and even Tsubine had been told to go away. She just didn't want to deal with anything or anyone right now and was trying to figure out how to change that.

No more avoiding him. Tsubine was getting annoyed at this point. His fiancé had refused to see him for three days. Not cool and not normal. So today, he was going to see Kaminari—whether she liked it or not. Tsubine had thoughts about why she was avoiding him. Maybe she was having second thoughts on their engagement. Maybe something happened with the baby. Maybe she was covered in chocolate and too lazy to bathe. Maybe she had an acne breakout. No matter the reason, she wasn't avoiding him today. This was because he finally found something he had been looking for.
"Kaminari," Tsubine called through her door, "I'm coming in. If you're naked, just stand away from the door." With a set of clicks, Tsubine had unlocked her door. He stuffed the old lockpicking kit back into a pocket and quickly entered. "Now, you've been avoiding people for the past few days. Which is fine, but I'm supposed to be different. So when you don't want to see me, I'm going to think something is wrong. And I'm supposed to be the one you talk to when something's bothering you. And... you're not covered in chocolate like I feared, so," Tsubine walked up and hugged her, avoiding her ice cream and chocolate.

Kaminari went to go change into a different nightgown after she spilt some ice cream on her belly. She didn't have really any maternity clothes, so most of her stuff didn't fit. She found an old over-sized nightgown that she had never worn and put that on. That was when she heard a faint voice. "Tubeeneh..." she mumbled over the chocolate-nut bar she was chewing. With her arm looped around a half-full ice cream container and a newly opened chocolate bar in her left hand, she walked out into the hall way as he appeared. She glared at him, her face puffed up from the candy in her mouth along with a couple of small bits of chocolate that she missed along her cheek. "You breaking into my home now?" she said, still chewing. She swallowed as he came over to her and hugged her. She leaned in to it, but looped her arm around his to take another bite of her candy bar. "You are different. I shot Midori in the ass with Kidō when she came in without permission. You I hugged, kinda. There, you're different."
Kaminari waddled her fatass passed him and toward the kitchen. "Now let me put this down and give you a proper hug." She put the ice cream in the freezer, the spoon still inside because she was going to get some more later and set the candy bar down on the counter back in it's wrapper. She got a napkin, wiped of her face and hands, dried them, and then sighed as she turned to Tsubine. Kaminari went over and hugged him this time, "Hey, honey. Why did you think that I'd be covered in chocolate? I'm not that messed up right now! I just need some time to get my head together. That's all!"

Tsubine gave her his usual smirk. "Until I get a key." That was one of the things Tsubine hadn't asked for, as they hadn't officially moved in together. They'd probably need a new place altogether though. Tsubine would not want to raise a kid in the underground barracks of the Red Division. Kaminari's place, while cozy, was too small for three people to live in. "Well, I'm glad you didn't do that." Tsubine smiled, enjoying her hug no matter how half-assed it was because of her full hands. He let her slide out from him and put her munchies away.
Tsubine hung his Haori on a coatrack while she tidied herself up. He hugged her back, kissing her forehead as they joined again. She smelled like chocolate and flowers. It was not the best mixture. "I just heard that pregnant women sometimes go a bit overboard when it comes to food. And add pregnant to you and..." Tsubine poked her nose. "I just didn't know what to expect. You always manage to surprise me, so I just imagine the worst." Tsubine leaned down to kiss her lips this time. "That way, I can always be pleasantly surprised when I see you."
Tsubine escorted his woman to the couch, and he sat down beside her, his arm around her shoulders. He looked down at her as he spoke. "You said you need to get your head together. Why don't I try to help? Remember, it's an 'us' now. You don't have to face your problems alone."

"I get enough of Midori calling me fat. I will not give her another reason for it." Kaminari pouted, crossing her arms. The two went over to the couch and sat down. Kaminari felt so comfortable next to him. She leaned into him as his arm came around her. "I'm not used to telling someone problems like this." Kaminari's eyes were narrowed. She looked away from him and sat up straight, sort of pulling away. "They're my problems, so telling people is weird." Kaminari explained as kindly as she could. There were things she had to get used to. Kaminari didn't know how to actually be in a relationship for one. For two, knowing that he was there to listen to her problems was odd for her. Not many just sat back and listened, most didn't care to. "What am I even supposed to say, Tsubine?"

"Well, Kaminari..." Tsubine also had no idea what to say in this situation. But he'd make it sound like he did. "I suppose you just start from the top. Go with the first problem you can think of and explain it to me. Everyone always has problems, worries... Um..." Tsubine looked very thoughtful for a moment. "For an example that isn't about us, I've been worried about Lilith lately. It's not a big problem, but she's been disappearing a lot more lately. For a bigger example, I've been thinking on what we should do for living arrangements. I don't know if your house is right, and I know mine isn't... so I'm not sure if this is a good place to raise our child in or if getting a new place to live would be better. As the one carrying our little bundle of joy and headaches," Tsubine gently rubbed her stomach, "I'm sure you've got a lot more problems than I do."

"She's been disappearing? That's not entirely like her." Kaminari avoided her own problems by focusing on what he told her, "Have you been able to talk to her about it lately?" Kaminari got her answer and then leaned into him a again. "As for our living arrangements... I can turn the office into a bedroom. If I need an office, I can use mine back in the barracks or knock out half of that unused space in the kitchen... The far end of it is pretty much a waste." Kaminari sighed. She wouldn't be able to avoid the conversation for long, not with Tsubine. Trying to would probably only irritate him. She stood up and began pacing around a bit, holding her belly up with one arm as she thought about what to tell him first. After a while, Kaminari stopped walking and just stared at the floor, clenching her fists in anger.
"I never thought I'd be a Mom. I never really wanted to be... And now that it's happening, I don't know what to do. I feel like it's going to ruin my life." Kaminari explained and half-way through began crying, "I feel so... ashamed of myself, but also angry. I don't want to have a child I'm just going to resent later. When I say that... I mean that I know I'm probably going to have to give up being Captain Commander, and that's all I ever wanted. And whether you admit it or not," Kaminari shot him a glare that would normally have caused someone's heart to jump, but she was fat so the intimidation factor was much lower, "I know you only proposed to me because of the baby. We had sex once. One time. We hadn't even moved in together. We had one date. What if you hate me in one or two years?"

"Unfortunately, no. She's gone that much." Tsubine sighed, and then Kaminari spoke up. "Hmm, that's not a bad idea. I just feel like it'd be cramped for you, and I don't want you to only have an office all the way back at the barracks. That's just too long of a walk if you need to look something up." Tsubine was surprised to see her start pacing, as he expected her to just get some more ice cream when she stood. He didn't say anything, as he wanted her to speak now. And did she speak.
The glare did hit Tsubine harder than she thought it did. She wasn't wrong. Tsubine didn't stand up to cradle her. Instead, he looked thoughtful. "Kaminari, I'm going to say this to you again. I proposed to you a lot sooner than I wanted to because of the baby, so you're not wrong. But as I said then, I did feel that connection with you. It's..." Tsubine ruffled his own hair trying to think. "I have never felt this way before. Even when I was young and carefree, I haven't been happier than I have been when I'm with you. I feel like I can tell you anything, no matter how deep of a secret. Also, Kaminari... the man I admired as much as a father disappeared on me, left me with the Captain-Commander's position, and then just re-appeared out of nowhere... if I can't get mad at him, there is no way I can hate you. Besides, even back five years ago... if I thought I, or anyone for that matter, would hate you in a few years, I would have stayed on as Captain-Commander. I trusted you with that, and I still think I made the right choice."
Now Tsubine stood, placing hands on both of her shoulders. "As for giving up your Captaincy spot... I'm going to say you don't have to. You may have to take some time off, but I don't see why you'd have to quit. I'm basically retired, so if you're worried about having our child be raised by nannies and babysitters, I'll be at home. And you know for a fact... the First Division is perhaps one of the least stressful positions. You can do your paperwork from home, and when you have to go to a meeting, it's not like I can't be there."
"Beyond that, Kaminari... I'm sorry. I should have used protection on our first night together. I really, really should have. But... I was too impatient. I wanted you then just like I've wanted you since. I only haven't lately because... I don't know if it'd harm the baby." Tsubine then pulled her into a hug. "Kaminari, I haven't lived as long as many of the other Shinigami here... but since we've been together, my life actually feels like it's moving. Things are moving fast. But we're in this together. That's something we're both going to have to get used to. And again, you're not going to have to give up the Captain-Commander position for another 195 years. Then, you and I get to be the first married former Captain-Commanders. How does that sound?"

Kaminari asked herself why she just didn't tell him her problems as he went on. He always knew what to say to make her feel better and it never felt forced to fake. He was true to her, honest and blunt in all ways she needed him to be. She stayed the same up until his apology. When he hugged her, she hugged him right back, careful not to press her big belly into him to hard. "That sounds good, great actually." Kaminari smiled and then looked lovingly up to him. She reached up and placed her hand on Tsubine's cheek, lightly caressing it with her thumb. "Don't ever apologize, please. Not for anything." she brought her hands to his chest and laid her head there, "And I'm not asking for me, but for our little one. I have all these doubts and worries. My mind is going in all of these scary directions and I'm stressed out. I do not want you to ever feel the same way. Right now, you have to be the stronger of us. You're able to calm me down. If you ever feel what I've been feeling, then I feel like that's when things go bad. I can handle it if I'm going a little crazy; I can't if you are at the same time."
Kaminari took his hand and brought him back over to the couch. She sat down, tugging on his hand so he would too. "Midori said stress can mess with the baby. It's why I thought I needed to avoid people and settle down, when in reality all I needed was you." Kaminari smiled sweetly at him, "I have to admit, I don't know what I'm doing. Not just with being a Mom, but being a girlfriend and soon to be a wife. My first relationship... I didn't expect it to jump so quickly and that's scaring me as well. I have so many questions and I'm becoming a Mom before I can get them answered. I've known you for years, Tsubine, but when I think about it... I don't know you. Does that make sense? I mean... I don't know your in-home habits. Do you squeeze the toothpaste from the bottom or the middle? Do you toss your clothes to the side or in a hamper? Do you walk around the house half-naked when you're relaxing? Am I going to have to yell at you for leaving the toilet seat up? These are things I feel like I should know before being a wife and especially a Mom. And there are things you should know too, but we haven't gotten to that point yet. Now that a child will be here, will we? Is that possible now?"

"Kaminari, there is only one thing that you should know right now," Tsubine spoke up, grabbing her hand as she rubbed his cheek. "I can hide my stress a lot better than you can. The only time you'll see me stressing out will be when I am worried about you like the day I proposed. I probably didn't need to use Kidō. Or my Bankai. But I had to make one-hundred-percent sure that you wouldn't be hurt. But don't worry. The only time I'll be stressed visibly is when I think you're hurt or something like that. I'll be the stronger of the two of us. You just concentrate on being a good mom while he... or she is still in your belly."
Tsubine was led to the couch, and he wrapped his arm around her again. She better get used to that. All of her questions and concerns... were good ones. He couldn't argue with any of it. He nodded when she said she didn't know him. It was true. They didn't know those things about one another. He thought about it, but decided against asking her those same questions. He'd... actually like to learn them, but he understood her worry. He patted the top of her head. "Let me answer those questions for you before I continue. From the middle. Depends on how tired I am, but usually in a hamper. Not really, I usually wear a robe—and nothing else except some slippers. And, yes, yes you will." Tsubine gave a playful smile with his last answer, then kissed her forehead.
"Kaminari, that point is something any couple gets to. We just took a few extra steps along the way. Here's something you probably don't know about me," Tsubine dug into his kimono, bringing out a small wooden box. Inside were a pair of circular glasses, not unlike the kind a certain kite-wielding historical figure wore. "I use these when I'm reading. I have no need of them elsewhere, but they do help." Tsubine put them on, and it made him look... odd to say the least. "But this is something anyone who saw me late at night would see. We're always going to be learning about one another. We're just going to be learning different things first because of the little one."
"As for knowing what you're doing... I'm just as lost as you are. I've dated one or two people before, but nothing... that ever got close to this serious. As strange as it might sound, you were my first, Kaminari. When we first decided to give this a chance, I said that I would give it my all. I just didn't realize my all would come out so soon. I had actually hoped we could work things out slower, but... I learned long ago that hoping and wishing doesn't work. Doing is what works. And well, when it comes to us, that did work." Tsubine gave a playfully dirty grin to his fiancé. "I'm going to suggest something though. If we want to know one another more, why don't I move in? It'd save me some stress from wondering if there's a problem in the middle of the night... and you'd get to wake up to see my dazzling face." He gave her a playful wink, knowing that she'd still enjoy that.

There was only one thing that Kaminari was going to remember that he just told her. When he pulled out those glasses, she watched with a child-like curiosity as he put them on. When they sat on his face, Kaminari stared at him. She kicked her legs a bit and just stared and stared. After a he was done asking to move into her place, she got onto her knees and pulled on both of his cheeks. "ADORABLE!" she suddenly shouted gleefully, "YOU LOOK SO FUCKING CUTE! OH MY GOD! WHY DO YOU NOT WEAR THESE MORE OFTEN!" She snatched them off his face and put them on her. She immediately got dizzy and put them back on him though. She giggled like a maniac and nuzzled her cheek against his. "So cute, so cute! I like 'em. I had no idea you wore glasses. Wear them more often! Around me only."
"If you want to move in, you can anytime you want, Love." Kaminari scooted away from him and then laid her head in his lap. She stared up at his glasses-wearing-face and just couldn't help but smile like a teenage girl. "So cute..." she mumbled excitedly. She relaxed a bit and sighed. "Anyways, I was surprised it took you this long to ask. I would have asked months ago, but I read that the man was supposed to. Why did you take so long? Being alone while pregnant is a pain! I can barely walk!"

Tsubine was glad to see her get excited about his glasses. "Simple, I can't wear them all the time. If I were someone who did more paperwork, I could justify it. But you know me, I'm more of a combat guy. Wearing glasses into combat is like asking to lose your eyes." After she laid her head in his lap, Tsubine put the glasses back into their case. "You'll see them when I'm reading, but that's about it. I can't stand wearing them all the time."
"I always thought it was more polite if the person who had a house fit for two asked. Not to mention, the woman asking sounds more appropriate to me. She's usually the better judge of when things get to a certain point." Tsubine began petting her head almost like a cat. "But I'll gladly move in. Maybe not today, but soon. I don't have that much to move, but it's moving it out of the Red Division barracks that's the pain..." Tsubine sighed, then looked to her with a very confused expression. "Kaminari... I have a serious question. I know I asked you to marry me and you said yes... but... when are we getting married?"

"You tell that to the Second Division's Third Seat... I think people who wear them all the time naturally know how to compensate. Similar to the way a woman with long hair knows how to move to make sure it's not cut." Kaminari shrugged as she laid her head in his lap, "Now I know what I'm getting you for your birthday. Books, lots of 'em." Kaminari smiled playfully. She wouldn't just buy him books so she could see him in glasses. If anything, she'll sneak into his office and secretly assign him more useless paperwork for a day. He'd probably get mad though. "Huh? What are you talking about, Tsubine?"
"The only thing I've been a good judge on is..." Kaminari froze and thought about it. She even put her hand over her eyes to think harder on it. "Yep, you. That's about it. Everything else, I keep messing up..." Kaminari's face suddenly soured and a few tears showed up. She looked away from Tsubine and pouted, "Stupid hormones... Now that I know why my moods are so strange, it's more frustrating."
Kaminari smiled when he began petting her head. "Good. Move in quickly. Otherwise I think I really will be fat by the time this is all over..." Kaminari gently pat the top of her belly and then saw his confused look. "What's wrong?" she asked and then he asked. "Is the woman supposed to choose that too?" Kaminari asked. It sounded like her being a smart ass, but she was curious, "I... really don't know."

"I'll have to show you my collection so you'll see what to buy and to make sure you don't get anything I don't already own." Tsubine was not an avid reader by any means. He read a little before falling asleep, but that was about it. Most of what he read were either historical fiction or philosophical and about different cultures' take on battle, honor, and pride. The rest, surprisingly, were cheap romance novels. Those were a recent buy He had changed his opinions on those matters quite a few times over the years until finally settling on his current outlook. Before Kaminari entered his life in such a major manner, Tsubine had been trying to think of the words to describe his theories and perogatives. Kaminari had made sure he didn't have time to work on that project anymore however.
"Kaminari... You don't think that I was perfect in my first decade as Captain-Commander, do you?" Tsubine looked down at his little woman with a raised eyebrow and concern plastered across his face. "You at least have the experience of being a Captain. I didn't. I was thrown blindly into it from being a Lieutenant. Oh sure, I made sense of the paperwork and duties required eventually... but that was nearly a decade down the line. And, let me be frank about this, I wasn't a good Captain-Commander. Or, well, no. That's not right... I wasn't a good leader. I could do the official part of the job. I could do the paperwork, assignments, et cetera. But I could not do the people part of the job. I'm not a people person, Kaminari. You, on the other hand, are. You're probably the most personable Captain-Commander the Gotei has ever had. ...Besides the one that tried to sleep with all of the Captains, but he was a different kind of personable."
Tsubine shook his head. "You're leading the Gotei differently than I did. Than how Ryuunosuke did. Than how his predecessors did. Every single one of us has had a different outlook on the position, which is something I learned the hard way about fifteen years into the position. You're not going to be the 'next' me, just like how I wasn't the 'next' Ryuunosuke. You're you, and you should take pride in that. I probably should have given you this speech a bit sooner honestly. You're going to do just fine. I made mistakes until I left office, Kaminari. You just always make a lot more in the beginning when you think everyone's watching you. Here's a big hint... they're not. And even if they were, with how good of a relationship you have with your colleagues... They'll stick by you. And I will always stand by the assertion that my best choice as Captain-Commander was to appoint you in the position instead of me."
Tsubine's question also had caught Kaminari off-guard. "Usually, yes. I think. I know normal women like to make a big fuss about weddings, planning them, and having the 'perfect,'" Tsubine's hands emphasized the word perfect, "wedding. Some want a big one, others want a small one. Some want to go somewhere fancy, others want to go somewhere with special memories. That sort of thing. From what I've read, normal women like to have one or two close female friends get with them and they talk over wine and brunch and plan the wedding. Usually, the man's job is to simply agree with what his wife wants." Tsubine gave her a somewhat playful smirk. "In all honesty though... I would prefer it to be after the baby is born. I'd really, really, really rather not have wedding pictures of us rushing you to the ER because the baby decided to come."

"Yes, I do." Kaminari answered with a sense of absolution. That is how she saw him. Rarely did he make mistakes, so why would he have done so then? Tsubine went on a bit of a rant there. Well, it wasn't really a rant, but more of a speech. He made her feel better. Some of her insecurities were dealt with, at least for now. He admitted to making mistakes, which surprised her. He even told her where things were going well with her leading the Gotei. Kaminari always wanted to be closer to the members of the Gotei and had made a point to being close to the Captains. The only one she kind of failed doing that with was Captain Yamanaka of the Twelfth Division, but how would that be shocking? That woman was stranger than snow in the Sahara during the hottest time of the year. Kaminari just smiled up at him. Her eyes softened, the worry slowly fading away. "Alright. I understand a bit more."
Tsubine's question about the wedding definitely threw her off. She had never planned one or witnessed one before, so how was she supposed to know? He explained things he had read, which caused Kaminari to look at him strangely. It was a mixture of confusion, surprise, and her being impressed. "I didn't expect you to say you've read such things... I knew you read, but I expected you to read history books over how-to romance books..." Kaminari covered her mouth and giggled at him, "Hun, you really are full of surprises." Kaminari hadn't actually been calling Tsubine "hun" or any other term of endearment until recently. Usually, it was just Tsubine or some sort of playful insult. "Though..." Kaminari's expression fell sad again, "Having a baby without being married... That just feels wrong. I'm not sure I'm entirely comfortable with that idea. I don't know why... It's just... I don't know."

Tsubine was glad to see Kaminari's face lighten up. It wasn't that she seemed happy, but that she seemed to have less stress. He had to go on a rant about himself because he realized just how idealized of a version Kaminari saw in him. It wasn't right. Not just that it was incorrect, but that Tsubine began to worry that maybe, just maybe, she had fallen in love with the perfect him. And if she had, Kaminari would be very disappointed. Tsubine was perhaps one of the more 'perfect' residents of the Seireitei. Tsubine was not perfect though. "If you want to hear more about my failures, talk to Lilith when she's back to being normal. She still brings up some of my more embarrassing ones..."
Tsubine actually made an embarrassed blush as she looked at him in awe. He let out a one breath chuckle, smiling down at his woman. "Honestly, I didn't until we started seeing each other. I didn't know what I was doing either. The only thing I knew before we started dating was that women want to be shown that the man they love also loves them. That's it. Before I started reading romance novels, I was just winging it." Tsubine was telling the truth, as he hadn't had much luck with women before. His brash personality when he was younger finally had started to mellow out, allowing him to see his mistakes now.
"Hmm... You know, I can't say I disagree." Kaminari's comment was something Tsubine hadn't thought about. He still had the worry of perhaps the baby coming early because of the stress, but she was right. It just didn't feel right. "Well, if you don't mind it being somewhat rushed... how about two weeks from now? It should give people we'd want to invite time to cancel or reschedule plans as well as time for caterers, florists, and the ever-important officiator to be found. We've gone into things fast before, so why stop with this?"

Had this been a cartoon, Tsubine would have seen stars in Kaminari's eyes. The hope that she would find out something new about Tsubine shined in them right now. There was also a hint of mischief and deviousness. She wanted something to pick on him for and that might be a perfect chance. Lilith loved talking about things like that. Kaminari curled and kicked her legs a bit, giggling excitedly.
And then he had to say that. Kaminari blinked rapidly, looking at him completely shocked. He was serious, wasn't he?! He was! Kaminari sat up and hopped in his lap, wrapped her arms around his neck and nuzzling her face all over his. In doing so, she was careful not to shake the baby too much. "You are so cute!! I didn't know you had such an endearing side of you, Tsubine! I absolutely love it!"
As for the wedding, it seemed they both agreed. It felt wrong to be married after the child was born. It also didn't help that they both came from a time where that would be horribly looked down upon. That mindset still stuck with Kaminari and apparently Tsubine as well. She nodded. "I think that will be best." Kaminari's smile softened and her cheeks turned red, "I'm getting married. I'm gonna be a wife."
